No. PaperStack does not crack or guess passwords. You must enter the correct password to decrypt the PDF in your browser. PDFs that require a password to open (user password) need that password. For PDFs with only owner restrictions (printing or copying limits), use the owner or open password your PDF app expects—PaperStack cannot remove protection if you don’t have authorization to access the file.
Unlocking PDFs you own or have permission to use is generally fine. Removing protection from documents you are not allowed to access may break laws or terms of use. Always make sure you have the right to unlock and share the file.
The tool works with standard PDF password protection commonly used in everyday documents (including typical RC4 and AES schemes supported by the PDF format). Very strong encryption, damaged files, or DRM-style locks may not unlock. If it fails, check the password or ask the document owner for an unprotected copy.
No. Unlocking only removes the security wrapper. Text, images, formatting, and structure stay the same as in the original—only the password protection is stripped when decryption succeeds.
Wrong passwords, corrupted files, or unusual encryption can cause errors. Double-check the password, try re-saving the PDF from the app that created it, or contact the sender. PaperStack cannot bypass passwords you don’t know.
